About the Club
The Solano Yacht Club was founded in 1954 by a group of local boating enthusiasts for the purpose of promoting boating fellowship, improve boating safety, and provide boating facilities. In 2009, the club celebrated its 55th anniversary. More than fifty years later the club continues to thrive with the same philosophy and enthusiasm for boating and water activities.
The club is primarily a powerboat venue, but there are a few sailboat enthusiasts. On a given day when the prevailing southwesterly winds are blowing through the Suisun slough, you will see a few sailboats make their way back and forth from the south end to the north end of the marina waterfront. Other water activities that are popular in the Suisun Slough include kayaking, paddle boarding and jet skiing.
The Solano Yacht Club is a volunteer club and the members contribute to all of the club’s functions. Members will volunteer to prepare dinners for general membership meetings and cruises in. The editor for the monthly “Old Salt” is a volunteer who donates their time and resources to produce an informative and timely membership publication. There is also a small group of dedicated members who plan for monthly events, including cruise outs for members and their family and friends.
The club members are also well known in the larger community for their charitable contributions. They have donated and served a spaghetti dinner for the local American Cancer Society Relay for Life event, collected food items and toys for local charities and in the recent past adopted two platoons.
The club is situated in the center of the waterfront district, which makes access to restaurants, shopping and seasonal local events easily done by foot. The Suisun City Waterfront District has an extremely active calendar. The events start in January with restaurant week and end with the Lighted Boat Parade.
